Video has become one of the cool ways of adding visual to an online course. The problem with streaming, as one of the article points out, is the file size. Audio files are good when it comes to how big the file size are, but when it comes to video, we might have streaming problem if the video is too long. We also have to worry about the software and hardware people will have to might to support the different video format.
Not everyone has DSL, Cable, or TI connection, but hopefully, as the price drops in the future, people will be able to add it into your PC.

Which article are you referring to? My understanding of streaming video is that the file starts playing as it is received and does not need to wait for a large download. Also with services like Akamai the file may be delivered from multiple locations allowing the user to receive the file faster.
ReplyDeleteIt would depend on what server you are using and your connection Lynne. But I think the author is referring to large video films vs. small audio file. Let's say 50MB video) vs. 450KB (audio). If you are still using dial-up connection then it wouldn't be loading so fast.
ReplyDeleteAlso, sometimes course management system like WebTycho, WebCT, or whichever, might take awhile to upload the video and stream it to the users. I've had that problem before.
