Discussions, for the most part for online students, it is independent...BUT...we are talking about discussions so it is a classroom setting. While the response is always on your own because you have to wait for your classmates to response, and in the most part, communication is not always at the right time. You probably won't get a response right away, but if you look at it as a whole, it would be a collaboration because you are not talking to yourself. There are people looking at what you are writing and you are communicating back and forth.

But what if they don't comment on what you are writing? Is it still a discussion or just a posting? Yet, in a face-to-face setting people make verbal statements that generate no response, so the online posting could be considered analogous to that scenario.
ReplyDeleteBecause of the individual postings of each person, online "discussions" do tend to be harder to follow. It's hard to see the whole picture. But it is easier to formulate your thoughts - allowing us to "think before we speak"
Someone better comment or else I'll feel depressed and lonely talking to myself :-D
ReplyDeleteI feel this is why online learning is so great because it allows for everyone to give their opinions and in return receive feedbacks from instructor and fellow students. In addition, you have a better chance of communicating online vs. face-to-face class if you are shy.
