Mail vs. E-mail vs. Assignment Folder

I took my first online course in college, Biology 360: Human Reproduction...I can still remember it, I believe it was around 2002 or 2003. It was a summer course and I hadn't a clue what I was getting into. Adding to the confusion, we had to turn in some of our assignments through the mail...yes, mail, as in US Postal Office.

Even though it was an online course using WebCT, our assignments were in paper. We had to print it out and do it, and then turn it in through the mail. Even the midterm and final exams.

It was my first time taking the course and looking back, it was kind of fun sending the work through postal office instead of email or assignment folder in WebCT. I don't think we will be seeing a lot of that anytime soon.

  1. I think if I had to send an assignment through postal mail, I would feel the need to have it return-receipt-requested so I would know it made it. Also, never knowing how long it would take to make it through the postal service would really stress me out. I'd be afraid it wouldn't make it on time.

Granted, we don't know for sure email gets to its intended recipient. I'm glad for our assignments folder on WebTycho :-)

This is what I thought to. We had a deadline on when the assignment was suppose to be postmarked, and I just have to think how long does it take for this envelope to reach my professor? So it's like I might lose 2 or 3 days to do the exam. If it was online, I could submit it 3 hours or 10 minutes before it's due.
